High School Challenge – Triathlon and Swim Series
The USA Productions High School Challenge is an exciting element to our Northern California triathlon and swim event series, promoting the life of athletes that continue to keep themselves in shape during their educational goals.
This is a great way for High Schools to show their School Spirit and Athletic abilities in Triathlon. Challenge other schools out there and find out who REALLY has the best school out there! Is there a better way to spend a weekend, competing in a great triathlon event with your family and triathlon team to achieve athletic goals in life? Come out and enjoy the athlete experience!!!!
High School Challenge prizes and awards: A High School Challenge team winner will be awarded at each race on the triathlon and swim on the calendar. High School Team Challenge winners will also receive branded apparel, medals, and other great sponsor products.

Triathlon Distance Categories:
- International Distance (1.5k swim, 40k bike, 10k run)
- Sprint Distances (depends on the venue, ¾ mile swim, 16 mile bike, 5 mile run or 500 yard swim, 10 mile bike, 5k run)
Swim Distance Categories:
- 1 and 2 Mile
Team points and scoring:
- 1 point for each individual or relay finisher up to 30 points
- The top 10 overall individual finishers for each gender (10 points for 1st, 9 points for 2nd … 1 pt for 10th)
- The top 3 swim finishers in each gender (3 points for 1st, 2 points for 2nd, and 1 point for 3rd)
- The top 3 bike finishers in each gender (3 points for 1st, 2 points for 2nd, and 1 point for 3rd)
- The top 3 run finishers in each gender (3 points for 1st, 2 points for 2nd, and 1 point for 3rd)
- ½ point for each High School parent finisher
- ½ point for every 5 volunteers supporting their school and teams! (Find out how your school/team can earn money while supporting all the athletes.)
The team with the most total points wins!
Tie Breaker:
If a tie occurs base on the individual team points breakdown (above), the number of finishers shall break a tie and determine the winning team.
Eligibility for Collegiate Challenge events:
-Must have 5 or more athletes from the high school participating to qualify for the challenge in each race.
Chip Timing:
This race will be timed using chip transpoders. Upon checking in you will receive a chip that is traditionally worn on the ankle. It is the athlete's responsibility to wear the chip during the entire race, if you do not wear the chip you will NOT be timed and you will not get your splits! If you're part of a 2-person or 3-person relay team it is each individuals sole responsibility to hand the chip off to teammates inside the Transition Area.
The Athlete is also 100% totally responsible for the return of the chip, our waiver will have a disclaimer that must be signed that states you the athlete must return the chip or be billed accordingly by our timing company. It is the racer's responsibility to make sure, if you cannot attend the race that the chip will be returned within 7- business days to USA Productions LLC.
USA Productions USAT Sanctioning:
USAT provides comprehensive insurance coverage to sanctioned events. The coverage provides liability coverage to protect the race director, sponsors, volunteers, officials, and participants. The athlete excess medical coverage protects each participant for the day of the event.
Athlete Excess Medical: When athletes purchase a USAT annual license or one day permit, a portion of those fees cover the cost to provide them with excess medical insurance. This coverage only extends to their participation in an USA Triathlon sanctioned event and is only available after the injured party has filed with any primary insurance policies.
Event Liability: USAT provides comprehensive liability insurance coverage to sanctioned events. The USA Triathlon policy automatically covers USA Triathlon race directors, sponsors, volunteers, officials, and participants while participating in sanctioned events. Single-event permit can only be purchased through the race director and is $10 at packet pickup or the day of the event. USA Triathlon does not sell single-day permits.
